It is amazing the treasures one can find in one’s backyard! Especially if that backyard happens to be a place called Drumheller, in the eastern part of the Canadian Province of Alberta.

This part of Alberta is one of my favorite places in the world. Why? Well, you will just have to step in to this enchanted Badlands to discover it for yourself.

But this is no kitschy promo for some travel and tourism organization. I promise you, this is one of the few places in the world that can literally transport you back to a time in the past and make you feel so.

In this enchanting haunted place you train it from outside and walk INSIDE an abandoned wooden coal mine tipple, at the Atlas Coal Mine Heritage site.

  1. With an economy of words, and nice photos, you’ve peaked my interest. I was prepared to be depressed re: another example of the depopulation of rural North America, but Wayne seems to be reversing the old maxim by “turning a sows ear into a silk purse.”

      Rural life in North America is resurging once again as the creative class from the urban settings choose less complicated lives and move outwards. social connectivity through the internet is making this boundary even smaller. the creatives bring alternative outlook to tradition and the mish mash actually is wonderful if survival of the ancient ways is required.
