As we’re in the throes of summer, we’re all looking forward to getting away on vacation. Of course, this can hit some of our pockets harder than others, especially as glamorous destinations like Las Vegas become all the more appealing. If you’re looking to head to the city of sin this summer, you can do so without breaking the bank – here are just a few tips on making sure you don’t part with too much of your hard earned cash.

Know your limits

If you’re new to gambling, it’s important that you only bet what you can afford to lose. Don’t enter the casinos with a cocky attitude, and certainly leave your ATM card at home. With the temptations of high stakes bets and alcohol all around, it can be all too easy to withdraw money when you’re on a losing streak.

It’s important to limit more than just your money too – be sure to keep an eye on the time. Casinos in Vegas are notorious for not having any clocks, so carry a wristwatch with you (not a cell phone – these are not allowed in casinos) and make sure you stop once your pre-set time is up.

Practice, practice, practice!

Before you go booking those flight tickets, it’s important that you don’t hit those casinos completely blind. There are a number of ways you can practice your favorite casino games, from playing online at riviera riches to checking out a number of books from your local library. Doyle Brunson, for example, is a renowned poker legend and has released several books on the topic – so try a few of these free methods before you go throwing your money away.

Drink responsibly

There is more than just avoiding alcohol at all costs to make sure you keep an eye on your spending in the casino. Of course, drinking is encouraged in Las Vegas casinos, but you’d be wise to avoid going to the bars all together. Instead, while you’re playing on the slots, wait for the waitress to come to you – she’ll happily take your drinks order and bring it back to you promptly. All you have to do is tip her a dollar and you’ll be getting free (or at least very cheap drinks) for the whole night.

Time your visit

If you’ve got a flexible timetable, make the most of this, because Vegas likes to charge more at weekends. If you’re really trying to be frugal, go during the week, and try to get your gambling fix out of the way earlier on in the day, when table limits are lower. Happy and safe gambling!

Remember to always drink and play responsibly! If you feel you have an addiction concern please contact your local addiction helpline.
