Pain. A lot of it.

These steps on the Inca ruins were built for aliens with long legs?

That is what you will feel when you attempt to “discover” Peru on a whirlwind 11-day adventure tour, if you have not moved your butt around outside of your cubicle for an extended period.

Office ping-pong does not count.

Tip: Hit the squat machine at your local gym 3-weeks before undertaking Peru tour. If no gym, do a brisk run for 30 mins followed by 10 mins of spot squats.

Inca archaeological site at Ollantaytambo

The lost city of the Incas in Sacred Valley and Pisac will be one of the two most well spent days of you entire life on earth (i.e. if you like ruins and hiking).

The Gate1 tour group

Our tour with Gate1 Travel offered 3 days/2 nights in Sacred Valley/Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo is a town and an Inca archaeological site in southern Peru some 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. It is located at an altitude of 2,792 meters (9,160 feet) above sea level in the district of Ollantaytambo, province of Urubamba,Cusco region.

One of the most intriguing features of the Ollantaytambo Inca ruins is the huge boulders observed on top of the steep hill. Archaeologists have concluded that those boulders were not originally from the mountains on the side of the ruins, but came from the other side of the river! How the workers brought them down from the other side, across the river, and then up the steep hill remains unanswered even today. Theories suggested range from use of log wheels, some sort of floating device, and of course the aliens!

These steps were created for giants, the Aliens [I’m claiming this]

What do you think about how the boulders were brought over?

Base [market area] of ollantaytambo

There is not a whole lot else to do in Urubamba valley, but it is perfect for winding down after the hectic first 3-4 days on the 11-day Gate1 Travel tour. The company offers an optional tour to Moray Salt Plats. Another option (not offered as optional tour but self-guided) is a visit to the majestic Pisac Ruins and the famous Andean market.

Gateway of the kings

One of the best parts of being on a group tour is the bonding over communal events, such as dinner at the local restaurant.

Here are two short clips to give an example of what group events are like on the Gate1 tour. Click on the images below to view on YouTube.
