Peru Travels in Sacred Valley & Chincheros | Budget Adventure Travel
The Peruvian landscape is so varied. From desert in the Nazcas, lakes in Titicaca, rivers of Amazonia, and mountainous terrain of the Andes, the diversity is startling.
On our budget adventure travel 11-day tour with Gate1 Travel in Peru, one of the significant highlights was a lunch stop in Chinchero to experience authentic Peruvian highlands cooking.
The treat was followed by a demonstration of alpaca wool dyeing carried out in the traditions of the Chinchero community.
Money Saving Tip: If you are looking for authentic handicraft at reasonable prices, I recommend buying directly from the community. Of course, as all things in Peru, the price is “adjusted” for tourists, but that is just fine. You are a tourist so why should you expect to pay like a local everywhere.
There is not much else to see or do in Chinchero, but should you choose to extend your stay here for a few days, there are some incredible hiking tours that can be arranged with the locals.
Check out this short video of alpaca dyeing process done by the Chincheros ladies in the community we stopped at. The young girl speaking in the video goes by ‘lady gaga’. no kidding!
And don’t forget to check out this short video of our lunch session in Chinchero with the motley Gate1 crew.
