Mystical Doors of Victoria, BC | Budget Adventure Travel
Have you ever experienced a moment where you just find yourself magically transported in to an alternate reality?
Many times over, when I have stood in front of doors and windows, I have experienced just this feeling. As a result, I have always been fascinated by doors and windows! Strange but true.
Besides the obvious interest in its functional and aesthetic design forms, I have always found it amusing to stare outside (and sometimes inside) through doors and windows and find myself drifting in to an alternate reality. Have you every found yourself transfixed while staring out an opening while driving, sitting in a bus, or simply when walking in to a room?
The ancients were much aware of this mystical element, as even back then, doors received the super-star treatment as it afforded the last and final touch of grandeur to the final piece. While the overall building was meant to be gawked at initially, the final focus always ended at the footsteps of the entrance – the majestic door that perhaps symbolized an entry to the soul of the person/s behind it. Perhaps this is why there is the reference again to a door in the commonly told jokes of entry questions asked by St. Peter at the Heaven’s Gate! Not at the “patio”, not on the “porch”, not on a “roof”.
Doors and windows have mystical elements with references to them being Portals to an alternate universe. Need further modern-day proof, then look further than your trusted Pinterest Board collective of such.
What if you could step through one and find yourself transported in to an alternate reality that you could pull yourself out off at anytime should you choose to. Or sometimes not!
Doors and windows also express personality of the occupant of the premises. Call it your Facebook landing page profile if you will.
And sometimes it is meant to let your soul stay but query the world outside.
And sometimes the thinker becomes…….well….Thunk!
The slide show below showcases some prominent and unique collection of doors and windows I saw in Victoria, BC.
Tell me, dear Reader, what does it mean to you?
Portions of this trip were supported by Grayline Westcoast Sightseeing and The West End Guest House to whom I owe a generous warm and heartfelt thank you.
